BPW Luncheon: Montana’s Citizen Legislature with Senator JP Pomnichowski
11:30 AM
Riverside Country Club
Join us for our June 19th Luncheon “Montana’s Citizen Legislature” with Senator JP Pomnichowski!

JP Pomnichowski, a Montana State Senator, will be presenting on our state legislature. This would be a non-partisan presentation/discussion describing the work of our Montana Senate and House of Representatives, and other statewide offices. Many people don’t know that Montana’s legislature is a citizen legislature that meets a maximum of 90 days every two years. In that short legislative session, the legislature passes public policy in the form of state laws, we pass a balanced budget of more than $12.8 billion (including federal money), and fund/legislate everything from Montana public schools and the Montana University System to sage grouse habitat to bridge repair to mining to child protective services.

JP Pomnichowski is a Montana State Senator representing District 33, Bozeman/Gallatin County and is the only woman in leadership for the Senate Minority Caucus as Minority Whip. She previously served three terms in the Montana House of Representatives (for House District 63, in the 2007 and 2009 legislative sessions, for House District 66 (redistricted) in 2015). In her first two legislative terms, she passed the second-greatest number of bills, all with bipartisan support. She served as Vice Chair of the House Natural Resources Committee (2009), Vice Chair of the House Taxation Committee (2013), and the Senate Local Government Committee(2015). She has extensive expertise in water policy as well as land use and natural resources policy. JP is a fifth-generation Montanan and has lived in Bozeman 33 years. A graduate of Montana State University, she studied architecture, physics, and English literature and graduated with a technical communications degree. She has worked in the health care field as an orthopedic surgery practice manager, medical records clerk, and ten years as an EMT/firefighter, and also has had careers as a TV producer/director, technical writer/illustrator, and web developer. JP has served on the MSU Bobcat Football gameday stat crew for 30 years, the only woman on the stat crew.
